Saturday May 30: Archeology Road Show | 10am - 3pmLocation: Gateway Discovery Park, 10520 NE Halsey St Website Details: The 14th annual Archaeology Roadshow, held in Portland, focuses on The Archaeology of Fire & Water and features dozens of exhibits and activities hosted by archaeologists and heritage specialists, representing universities, tribes, federal and state agencies, companies, and nonprofit organizations.
The Roadshow also invites visitors to bring personal objects (stone tools, pottery, animal bones) they wish to know more about. We’ll have a panel of experts on hand who will help interpret your find. No financial appraisals are given.
The event site is ADA accessible.
This family friendly event gives visitors of all ages the chance to learn more about Oregon’s past and its connections to us today. It is completely free and open to all.

Do you have an artifact that you want to learn more about? Perhaps you found a curious object (a possible stone tool, a piece of pottery, an animal bone) while on a hike or walking on farm land, or a relative gave you an artifact that had been special to them. Bring it to the Archaeology Roadshow!
At all of our events, we have experts on hand who have knowledge about stone tools, pottery, animal bones, historical archaeology, and geology. Our experts will do their best to determine the object’s age, possible function and anything else they can. If you have any details about where the object was found, please bring these. Limit – 3 objects. No financial appraisals.
Besides sharing their knowledge, the experts will talk with you about the importance of stewardship – and the need for all of us to take care of precious artifacts that are directly linked to descendant communities. They will talk about the ethics and legal aspects associated with artifact collecting (see the State of Oregon website https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Pages/archaeology.aspx) – and suggest organizations you can join (Oregon Archaeology Society and Archaeological Society of Central Oregon) or museums to visit, to support your love of archaeology and history.
Also on the Saturday May 30: Coyote Palooza at PSU Farmer's Market | 8:30am to 2:00pmLocation: SW Park/SW Montgomery Website This isn’t in East Portland, but it’s an issue that affects us: Coyotes can survive and even thrive in many different kinds of environments – including in cities and our backyards. Coyote-palooza is a family- and pet-friendly event that will feature booths where you can learn about coyote identification and biology, participate in hands-on activities for adults and kids, and discover ways to keep pets and people safe. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of coyotes, the role they play in our ecosystem, and how to coyote-proof your space. Stop by for some fun and walk away with new knowledge and tools for coexisting with coyotes! June 20: Parkrose Heights Summer Celebration | 12pmLocation: Knott Park Hey, it's our own event! We could use more help with logistics, coordinating with Sacramento Middle School and the various partner groups, shopping for refreshments, etc. So if anyone is looking for an opportunity to get involved, get in touch via officers@parkroseheights.org June 28: Sunday Parkways East Portland | 11am to 4pmWebsite Details: Portland Sunday Parkways Presented by Kaiser Permanente will return to East Portland on June 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The East Portland 4-mile out-and-back route will have four featured activations, and we are thrilled to debut Verdell Burdine Rutherford Park as a new addition to the East route this year. This free community event led by the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) invites people to walk, bike, roll, and play on car-free streets.
Participants are welcome to join the East Portland route at any point and head in any direction. This event route is specially designed to highlight the network of neighborhood greenways and other infrastructure, parks, and community resources. There will be activation areas along the route where circulation slows for vendor marketplaces, community booths, free family-friendly activities, and live entertainment.
